     How to block adult content on Windows?

    Protecting your Windows PC from websites with explicit content and unwanted digital distractions is essential for staying focused, maintaining your mental well-being, and ensuring your household's online safety. Windows offers powerful built-in tools and network settings that allow you to block adult content without purchasing additional software

    In this guide, we present two free and highly effective methods for restricting access to adult sites on Windows

    Method 1: Blocking adult sites via CleanBrowsing’s "Family" DNS (system-wide protection)

    The fastest and most reliable way to filter explicit content across all web browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave) is to configure CleanBrowsing’s "Family Filter" DNS directly within Windows network settings

    Step 1: Open Network & Internet settings

    Click the Start menu and select Settings (or press the Win + I keys).

    Click Network & Internet

    Select Change adapter options (or click your active Wi-Fi or Ethernet network connection)

    Step 2 : Access TCP/IPv4 properties

    Right-click your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and click Properties

    Locate "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" in the list, select it, and then click the Properties button located below

    Step 3: Enter the "Family Filter" DNS addresses

    Select the option "Use the following DNS server addresses :"

    Enter the following IP addresses for the CleanBrowsing Family Filter :

    Preferred DNS server: 185.228.168.168

    Alternate DNS server: 185.228.169.168

    Check the "Validate settings upon exit" box and click OK

    For IPv6, enter the following IP addresses for the CleanBrowsing Family Filter :

    Preferred DNS server: 2a0d:2a00:1::

    Alternate DNS server: 2a0d:2a00:2::

    Click OK

    Note : These DNS servers automatically block adult sites and domains with explicit content, while also enabling "SafeSearch" on Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.

    Method 2 : Configure Microsoft Family Safety (built-in parental controls)

    If multiple users or children share the same Windows computer, Microsoft Family Safety provides user-account-level protection to filter inappropriate web content and limit screen time.

    Step 1: Add a family member account

    Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users

    Click "Add a family member" and create or enter a Microsoft account for your child or the secondary user

    Step 2: Enable content filters

    Open your browser and sign in to family.microsoft.com

    Select the profile of the family member you wish to restrict

    Click "Content filters" in the left-hand menu

    Enable the "Filter inappropriate websites and searches" option

    Step 3: Block specific websites and enable SafeSearch

    Ensure SafeSearch is enabled

    In the "Always blocked" section, you can manually add specific domain URLs to block them permanently
